Moody’s Upgrades BAKAI’s Rating to B2, Reflecting Stronger Creditworthiness Across Key Measures

On October 6, 2026, Moody’s Ratings upgraded BAKAI’s long-term local- and foreign-currency deposit ratings from B3 to B2. The agency also upgraded several key creditworthiness assessments for the Bank.

BAKAI’s Baseline Credit Assessment (BCA) was upgraded from b3 to b2. This measure reflects the Bank’s standalone financial strength and its ability to meet its obligations without taking potential external support into account. The upgrade signals an improvement in Moody’s assessment of BAKAI’s credit profile.

The Bank’s long-term Counterparty Risk Ratings (CRRs) were upgraded to B1, while its Counterparty Risk Assessment (CR Assessment) was raised from B2(cr) to B1(cr). These changes reflect a stronger assessment of BAKAI’s ability to meet its obligations to financial partners and counterparties.

The Bank’s short-term ratings remain unchanged at NP and NP(cr). Following the upgrade, the outlook on BAKAI’s long-term deposit ratings was revised from positive to stable.

Oppenheimer Europe served as BAKAI’s exclusive advisor throughout its engagement with Moody’s Ratings, supporting the Bank in its rating-related discussions and international positioning.

The upgrade has practical significance for BAKAI. A stronger international credit rating can help reinforce confidence among foreign banks, investors, and financial institutions, while expanding opportunities to secure external financing and develop international partnerships. Over time, this may also contribute to more favorable funding terms and further growth in the Bank’s international operations.

For Kyrgyzstan, the upgrade of one of the country’s major banks sends a positive signal to the international financial community. It helps strengthen confidence in the country’s banking sector, raise its profile in international markets, and create further opportunities for cooperation with international investors and financial institutions.

The upgrade of BAKAI’s rating from B3 to B2 reflects the strengthening of the Bank’s credit profile and underscores its continued progress in the international financial arena.
